Controller
The Controller is responsible for managing various areas relating to financial accounting including general ledger accounting, collaboration accounting, and monthly, quarterly and yearly closings and compliance with financial standards and regulations.
Summary of Job
This full-time Controller position is responsible for managing various areas relating to financial accounting including general ledger accounting, collaboration accounting, and monthly, quarterly and yearly closings and compliance with financial standards and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage monthly close process, including review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and analytical review procedures.
- Conduct monthly account reconciliations.
- Responsible for management of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring that invoices are properly recorded and paid and receivables are captured appropriately.
- Responsible for processing payroll, ensuring that salaries and related withholdings (taxes, benefits, 401K, etc.) are properly recorded and paid in a timely manner.
- Assist in the monthly financial closing process, including improving related controls and reducing the overall time to close. This encompasses completing necessary journal entries, developing account analysis to support balances and other analyses, as appropriate.
- Develop monthly financial statements and analyses, including balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flow, and tracking and analyzing performance compared to budget.
- Ensure the integrity of all accounting information and related financial reports.
- Use knowledge of GAAP reporting to assist in the preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements and other financial reports as may be required.
- Evaluate and implement enhancements to accounting systems and processes.
- Participate in the Company’s ongoing annual internal control compliance effort; participate in the annual planning, testing and summarization of test results and drive continuous improvement and company-wide adoption.
- Assist in the completion of interim and year end audits, including sales tax, workers compensation, property tax, etc.
- Manage and coordinate all aspects of audits including interacting with external auditors to ensure timely completion of quarterly reviews and audits.
- Participate and support budget and forecast efforts as needed.
- Completion of special projects and analyses as needed.
- Assist in other accounting activities as assigned.
- Work independently to develop solutions to financial and analytical problems.
- Initiate and coordinate accounting research for new transactions.
- Initiate, Manage and coordinate system design, upgrades and implementation for accounting system improvements.
- Perform ad hoc projects as necessary.
Job Requirements and Education
Education/Experience:
- BA/BS in Accounting or equivalent.
- 15+ years of accounting experience in financial reporting/general ledger areas.
- Accounting experience within the life science business desired.
- CPA certification preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and skills in Accounting and Payroll software program
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word; advanced Excel skills required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

- Ability to sit for long periods of time, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
- Regular communication (hearing/speaking).
- Approximately 25% travel is required; overnight travel required as needed.

- Noise conditions range from quiet to moderate – home office conditions variable.
Salary Range: $250,000 – $270,000
